Another must-see is Sforzesco castle, a 14th century fortress which houses museums such as the Museum of Ancient Art, the Pinacoteca and the Egyptian Museum. However, the city’s most famous work of art, Leonardo Da Vinci’s ‘Last Supper’, is to be found in the Santa María delle Grazie Church. Other places of interest include Mercanti Square, one of the city’s most beautiful squares and home to important Medieval buildings, and the 4th century San Lorenzo Maggiore Church, the oldest in Milan.
Once you have soaked up your fair share of monuments, head to Lake Como for a breath of fresh air. This stunning oasis just outside of Milan is the third largest lake in Italy, and is surrounded by picturesque little villages, including Bellagio, Varenna and Tremezzo.
