The tanner and dyer souk is by far the most interesting of them all, where leather and wool is dyed in enormous stone basins filled with coloured water. The most prominent monuments of the Medina are the Ben Youssef Madrasa mosque, the Kutubia mosque, the Royal Palace, and the Bahia and Dir Si Said palaces.Worthy of mention are the impressive late 16th century Badi Palace ruins, as it was considered a great marvel of the Muslim world in its time.
For the perfect end to your trip, head to the Menara Gardens, one of Marrakesh’s most beautiful parks, which boasts a lake surrounded by olive trees and a view of the Atlas mountains. The Majorelle Botanical Garden houses a charming and colourful Art Deco villa, which belonged to expatriate French artist Jacques Majorell since the 1920s and was reacquired by Yves Saint Laurent in the 1980s. This complex perfectly symbolises Marrakesh’s status as Morocco’s most international city, which is home to a large community of foreigners who are drawn to its exoticism and beauty. Just as the fabrics soak in the dyers’ souk, you too can soak up the colourful charm of Marrakesh.
