The island’s paradisiacal beaches of white or black sand and crystal clear, turquoise water are the largest of the archipelago. The list of beaches to choose from is endless: El Puertito, Cofete, Morro Jable, Jandía, Sotavento, La Pared, Corralejo, El Cotillo are just a few of the many options. Fuerteventura also boasts a vast array of natural parks, volcanoes and protected landscapes. The Corralejo Dunes Natural Park and Lobos Island are the most important and span over two zones. The Corralejo Dunes Natural Park, located in the north of the island in the town of Oliva, is an arid area with almost no vegetation, golden sand and stunning beaches, such as the Puerto de la Peña and other raised beaches. Lobos Island, with its impressive Mount Caldera, is located just off the coast of Oliva.
If, after such an eruption of nature, you’re looking for a pleasant stroll, don’t miss Betancuria, the most beautiful and isolated town of the island. Situated on an inactive volcano’s crater, the town is the Canary Islands’ least populated, with only 700 inhabitants.
